Here's my thing

 EliteXC

So I caught Showtime's EliteXC card late last night. I primarily turned in to see how this guy Kimbo Slice would do against Tank Abbott.

I had no doubt Kimbo would win, Abbott's way past his prime, and though I wouldn't want to piss him off in a bar or somewhere, in the ring, against an in shape fighter ten years younger . . . well I knew it was going to be a slaughter.

To his credit, the 42 year old Abbott got off the mat twice to keep fighting until he was knocked out by Slice. You can't fault Tank for lack of balls, he's just too old to be fighting in the cage anymore.

But here's my thing, Showtime is scheduling Kimbo against one tomato can after another (no offense, Tank), and at some point he's going to end up as heavyweight champion in EliteXC's MMA world. And that is going to de-legitimize the whole sport.

Because for all the training vids and talk about who Kimbo Slice is training with, he's a street brawler, the Mike Tyson of MMA. He's got no martial arts skills to speak of . . . probably no more than I have gained from watching Bruce Lee movies.

So when this guy wins the title in the most prestigous weight class, what is that going to say about MMA? That it's no more than the no-holds-barred brawling cage fights that turned people off from UFC in the first place? Yeah, pretty much.

Can anyone beat this guy? Of course. My father was always fond of saying that no matter how tough or badass you think you are, there's always someone tougher and meaner. I don't know who EliteXC has in their stable right now who can challenge this guy. They've been panting about Antonio Silva for a while, but last night celebuwreck Ricco Rodriguez made Silva look really bad while winning a split decision.

I gave up on boxing a long time ago (I'll put that in another blog), and I've just come around to the more satisfying MMA stuff recently. I'd hate to see this go the same way as the sweet science.

Only time will tell.

 And the winner is . . .

Lindsay Lohan!

I didn't actually have a horse in this race, but if anyone had asked me which one out of Lindsay, Paris, and Britney would intentionally pose nude, I would have picked Paris.

But Linds beat her to the punch with her homage to Marilyn Monroe in New York magazine. Duplicating the tragic actress' last shoot right down to the tousled blonde hair.

Funny, I guess it's about the art right? She plays a stripper who never takes her clothes off in a movie, but poses naked in an over the counter periodical.

Hmmmm . . .

I'd post a sample here, but I think it might be against the TOS, so you'll just have to hunt for yourselves if you're interested.

 Daytona 500 thoughts . . .

NEWMAN!

Very happy to see Ryan Newman win the 500. Of course, I would have also been happy to see my boy Tony "chubby" Stewart win as well. Or Junior. Or even Kyle Busch, 'cause I've always liked the M&M's car, think we'll be seeing that one in Victory Lane quite a bit this year.

So, basically, I'm pretty happy all around with the race.

Sam Hornish acquitted himself pretty well. They never mentioned Francitti's name all day, so that might have been a good thing. I'd like to see these open wheel guys do well. I've always got a soft spot for them.

FOX's race crew, the best on TV, started a little slow, but hit their stride after a bit. Nice to have them back on TV again. Excellent bit where DW mentioned that Kyle Busch was being too aggressive too early in the race and was quickly validated by an in-car admonition from Hendrick. Fabulous!

The gopher-cam was fun, but after a couple of times, the stupid animation gopher got pretty annoying. They could drop that.

Can't get used to all the new players on new teams with new colors. That's gonna take a while. And Kasey Kayne for Budweiser?! Is he even old enough to drink?! That's gonna be a tough sell, I think.

Quantum leap in peformance for the Toyota's this year. The move by Gibbs, which I doubted last year, might have been the right thing after all.

All in all, it's nice to have racing back on television again.

Now if we can only get Danica a win, it will be perfect

Coming to a Law & Order episode near you

  This is too much:

Apparently the LAPD is inves-tigating this guy Sam Lutfi for allegedly drugging Britney to keep control of her. Seriously.

Have you ever seen anything like this in your life? I mean, I'm old, and I can't remember ever even hearing of anything this twisted. What a sordid mess this whole thing has become.

While my sympathy for Brit is measured, someone (like her freekin' parents!) needs to sweep this girl up and take her away from everything celeb and music related before this turns tragically fatal.

wow

 More techy fun

So I've been having trouble with Outlook Express recently. To be more precise, I've been having trouble with Norton's opscan exec program in one of my e-mail identites.

Just one.

Out of four. Go figure.

Which I did. I figured the problem might be with my registry. So I downloaded a registry scan and repair tool and ran it.

Over 3100 errors! Yikes!

See this falls in line with what I blogged yesterday. These 'puters are doing way too much. There's millions of lines of code which leads to millions of possible errors. When you stop and think of it, it's amazing these things run at all. Quite a testament to the programmers and techies who work all this stuff out.

No basic point here, still just sort of amazed at all them errors.
