Here's my thing

 Sports

Another great win by my Bulls as they stomped Louisville 55-17. The defense played big, shutting down a high powered offense. And Grothe and the Bulls offense ran roughshod over Louisville's shakey defense. The guys have one final game, on the road with Pitt, then with luck a break into the top 25 and a bowl game. It would be a nice finish to what looked like a lost season during that 3 game losing streak.

The Bolts are on a tear, in the middle of a 5 game win streak, with the guys scoring like it's the All-Star game. Holmer is looking hot in goal, which is what any team needs to be competitve. You can't expect them to win every game, but they need to stop these extended losing streaks to get solidly into the playoffs. The team appears way too talented to settle for just an appearance though, they should be playing for the Cup this year. I'm hoping for a chance to see another Cup finals game.

The Bucs have the dysfunctional Falcons, or as I like to call them "Bucs-North", in Atlanta today. Rested up after the bye week, I'm picking the guys to overrun the Falcons today big. The local fish wrapper echoes my sentiments that the guys need to put a stranglehold on the division with this game and just like I mentioned above with the Bolts, the Bucs are talented enough to be playing for the Championship. Of the four teams at the top, I see it as Dallas, Tampa, Green Bay, and Seattle in that order of win potential. Seattle just doesn't seem to be in sync this year. The Packers will go until Brett Favre has a couple of bad games, and he's long overdue this season. I like a Dallas/Tampa match-up. Though I think Dallas is the better team, the Bucs have a puncher's chance of winning, then all bets are off in the Super Bowl.

Might happen.

 How incompetent can you be?

Remember when the Dems won control of the House. And new speaker Pelosi said she was going to drain the swamp and they were going to have this huge first 100 days and so on.

After accomplishing essentially nothing except raise minimum wage, the Dems launched something like 300 (or was it 600?) investigations into Republicans in search of corruption. And found nothing. Nice use of time.

Now they are supporting the troops by stripping them of everything they need by pushing through a budget bill without enough money to fund the war. Yeah I get it, you hate the war, you hate Bush, so to get your pound of flesh you'll sacrifice the lives of our soldiers. Ooh, such patriotism!

And it's not only soldiers earning the enmity of Dems, it's us poor shlubs paying these f**ker's salaries! Ever hear of the Alternative Minimum Tax or AMT? It was created in the '60s to ensure that the wealthiest citizens pay their fair share of income tax. Problem is, it is not indexed for inflation, so left as is, millions of non-millionaires would end up paying more taxes.

Those rotten, slimey swamp dwelling Republicans, when in control of Congress, passed a yearly patch to fix this problem and keep us normal folk from losing mortgage and child tax deductions and getting stabbed with higher taxes.

But guess who hasn't found the time to pass the patch this year? Your Bush-hating, conservative-loathing, military-hating Democrats, that's who! And it has to be done by tomorrow, the 16th. Think it will get done? Yeah, me neither. And here's where it gets really ugly.

From the date the patch is enacted, it will take 12-13 weeks to reprogram, test, and integrate the changes into the complex computer programs and systems that process tax returns. Which means that 50 million taxpayers will see a significant delay in the arrival of some $75 billion in refund checks next year. Oops! But as long as Fat Teddy and Glam Nancy are okay, who gives a s**t about us ditch diggers? Party of the people my ass!

But in the spirit of full disclosure, the Dems did try and do something to help us out of this mess -- they passed a 130% tax increase on the entrepeneurs who create jobs, which works out to an $81 billion dollar tax increase to fund just this one year of tax relief.

Yeah, you read that right, they raised taxes to fund tax relief! I feel like that robot in the old Star Trek series after Spock freaked him out with circular logic -- raise my taxes to give me a tax refund . . . but I'm paying myself with my own money . . . but it's a tax hike . . . but I'm getting money back . . . but . . . BOOM!

And these people have the juevos to talk smack about the Pres?!

Pathetic!

This day just keeps getting worse

Okay, did I read this right? Sabathia got the Cy Young award? Over Beckett? Are you kidding me? Was that some sort of sympathy vote? Unbelievable!

So I drop my car off for a little maintenance. For the record, I drive a '98 Trans Am. I've owned four Firebirds -- a '69 Firebird, a '78 Trans Am (you know the Smokey & the Bandit job), a '95 Formula (in between the base Firebird and the T/A) and my current '98. All but the '69 have been pieces of crap! I will never buy a Pontiac of any make ever again!

But anyway . . .

I've got a power steering leak and what I thought was a leak in the differential, a frustratingly common occurance as the seal is always wearing out. So I drop it off and get stuck driving a replacement vehicle -- an HHR. groan Most uncomfortable vehicle I've ever driven!

Anyway . . .

The service manager calls with the update on my vehicle. To hear him tell it, I can't believe I've been able to drive the car daily for the last 10 years! According to him I need a complete overhaul of the power steering system -- all new parts. The differential sounds like it's ready to drop out of the car according to the test drive mechanic. So I've got to pay $400 just to take it apart and see if it can be cleaned up or completely rebuilt. Any bets on which way that's going to go?

And oh yeah, the brakes are a complete disaster. Why, how have I been able to stop the car at lights I wonder? Dragging my feet like Fred Flinstone I suppose. The service guy quotes this reasonable price for the brakes with the caveat that it may cost more if they can't save the rotors. Oh brother! Again, any bets on how that turns out?

And he's going on about all the warning lights on the dash going off, and I'm thinking -- "Who the f**k do you think's been driving the car 50+ miles every day, six days a week? Don't you think I noticed the lights on the dash!" jeez

So my little repair job that I thought might max out under a grand is looking like a $3000+ fleecing! Is the car even worth that much? I know even a thousand is a lot of money, but I assumed it would be that much because you can't get your wiper blades replaced at the dealer for under a grand. I don't think their calculators even start at zero, I think you turn them on and they say $500, you know?

Plus I'm stuck driving this bizarre vehicle for another day, which should give me shin splints and some sort of tendonitis from trying to feather that stupid accelerator pedal!

And on top of that, we're slammed at work. My boss screwed me over Saturday, then tried to make it up to me by stealing my overtime today! huh?

Some days I just don't want to get out of bed. You know?

 A little sports happiness here

Torts finally got the boys turned around, and they've won a couple of games on the road. Whew! Things like that turn into 800lb gorillas really quickly. Leave it to our hockey version of a mad scientist to keep mixing and matching lines until everyone got back on the same page. Good stuff.

My Bucs are enjoying a much needed bye week and will hopefully heal up a bit and get at least one running back off the IR. The guys are 5-4 and are basically a couple of plays away from being 7-2. Funny to read in the papers, the local sports writers are cutting Chucky some slack because of the injuries. Two years ago, when the team was decimated by injuries they were calling for his head. These guys just astound me.

The Bulls finally got back in the win column with a big victory over Syracuse 41-10. I'm hoping this will be a learning year for the kids. They got their first taste of national attention and the pressure it brings. Yeah, they wilted, but I'm confident that coach Leavitt will use that as a motivating/teaching tool for next season. Let's see where the guys finish next year. We got a tantalizing peek this year. Who knows? Might be a new team from Florida on the big stage next year. How fun would that be?

Saved me a lot of typing

When the Goracle won the Nobel Prize, after I got done pounding my head against the table, I worked up a big long blog pointing out what a lot of hooey this whole Global Warming thing is. I was going to go on about how it flies in the face of thermodynamics and the sloppy, lazy psuedo-science involved.

But this is much better . . .

From John Coleman, creator of The Weather Channel, in an article published in ICECAP today:

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in [sic] allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the "research" to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild "scientific" scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmental conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minutes documentary segment.

and finally . . .

I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct. There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril. I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.

In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious.

Thanks for taking a load off my carpal tunnel, John.
