Here's my thing
Wednesday August 13, 2008
I was going to bitch about the USA women getting jobbed on their scores like the men did last night, but it wouldn't have mattered. That one girl, Alicia Sacramone, fell off the balance beam and landed out of bounds on floor, effectively killing any US chance of overtaking China for the gold.
Tough break for her and the US girls and she held it together amazingly with cameras shoved in her face every moment, hoping to catch her crying. Here's hoping she rebounds in the event finals.
Hat tip to Bela Karoli for saying what I hope most viewers were saying about the Chinese team -- underage! If that one little girl is sixteen, I'll kiss her coach's ass on national tv. Blatant cheating. Reminds me of the seventies with the USSR and all the soviet block countries cheating like big dogs.
Props to Michael Phelps for winning another gold. He's like a man amoung boys out there. His opening leg in the 4x200 relay was ridiculous.
Go USA!
Update: There's apparently a video making the rounds on YouTube of Sacramone ko'ing some guy in college. It looks like one of those "I dare you" things from some idiot who doesn't realize that female gymnasts are pound for pound stronger than most guys. Effin' bozo! Hope he enjoys his fifteen minutes of humiliation. He deserves it.

Here's former "Species" star Natasha Henstridge showing that women don't have to be shopping in the missy petite section of the bikini shop to look totally hot:

And here's a couple of pics of the new model for video game icon Lara Croft. I believe her name is Alison Collins. All I know is she's hit my trifecta -- hot girl, guns, and boots. Does it get any better than that?

Where is all this headed?
I'll admit I've been a bit slow getting up to speed on this situation. My initial readings were that Russia was defending a breakaway province from Georgia. But now it seems there's a bit more to it than that.
Russia had apparently been encouraging citizens of S. Ossetia to become Russian citizens and was quietly massing troops and armor on the border waiting for trouble to break out.
Last thing I saw this morning was that the Russian puppet head under Putin has ceased hostilities after 5 days of battering Georgia with their superior military power. How compassionate.
Georgia, a democratic former state of the USSR, has completely remade itself in our image, firing 40,000 corrupt police officers and rebuilding their economic system to make it one of the most attractive in Europe.
The reasons for the Russian incursion seem obvious -- power and ego. Putin wants to rebuild the Soviet Empire. He needs to recapture the breakaway states and stifle competition from things like the oil pipeline that runs through Tblisi.
In the now classic 3 a.m. moment, only John McCain got it right calling for Russia's immediate withdrawal from a sovereign state and cessation of all hostilities. Group hug expert Obama missed badly with his "both sides need to show restrait" comment that shows his shocking naivete in world affairs. Indeed, McCain is now being lauded in news sources for his years ago calling Putin the imperialist dictator he is now showing himself to be.
Are we headed for armed conflict in the Caucases? I hope not. Do we give military support for an ally that has aided us in Iraq? We should. Which candidate do you trust to know what's going on in the world?
Not The One.

Congrats to the US Men's Gymnastics team for winning the bronze medal in tonite's[tomorrow's] team event finals. I think the guys were getting jobbed in the scoring, especially on the high bar where their routines had a much higher degree of difficulty and they nailed the snot out of them. But hey, what are you gonna do?
Hat tip to the Chinese for the gold medal. Hard to believe such a huge country has an inferiority complex, especially to tiny Japan, but that's history for ya.
Watching Michael Phelps eat those guy's lunches in the 200m prelim . . . wow! An amazing athlete. Congrats to him as well, for another gold.
Go USA!

The pic above is from the set of some movie about the Prince of Persia or something, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and a cast of others. Jake has clearly buffed up a tad since the last time I saw him in a movie. And I don't have a problem with that. And I like his girlfriend Reese, always have, I think she's actually quite a good actress -- very versatile.
But with her boyfriend looking like that, maybe she ought to do something about her wardrobe and physique. I mean how often do you see this happen in Hollywood, some actor or actress gets all pumped and preened for a movie role and suddenly their frumpy spouse or significant other isn't getting the job done anymore?
