Here's my thing

 The Rocket fizzles

So Roger Clemens will be on 60 Minutes tonite to explain away the rumors of steroid abuse with the ubiquitous statement about "B12 injections."

What is this, the 1950's?!

Does he seriously think anyone will believe this? Do people even get B12 injections anymore? That's an antiquated medical cure-all for hangovers, icky feelings, etc. That is what Mickey Mantle was supposedly injecting himself with when he got that abcess that bumped him out of the home run race. What a crock!

Look, as you know, I'm a Red Sox fan. As such, I'm a Clemens fan. Even though he drove a stake through my heart by going to the Jankees. Twice. But the only thing sadder than learning someone you rooted for was cheating is watching them flail around desperately trying to explain it away.

Roger is supposed to go before a Congressional committee soon. He will be under oath when they ask him about steroid use. Is he going to do a Palmeiro and shake his finger at Congress, only to be proven later to be a liar? Or will he invoke the fourth and a half amendment and say he doesn't want to talk about the past, ala Mark McGuire?

Here's my thing -- I think he is guilty. I think a lot of players have been juicing for a lot of years. I think Roger should man up, admit what he did, and become an ambassador for cleaning up the game. He may not get into the Hall of Fame when it's time, but he can make a more lasting impression on the sports world by being truthful and working to make sport purer.

Isn't that the right path for a roll model?

 Happy New Year!

And finally over 1000 visits. Whoo hoo! I feel so validated

Anyway, a few random thoughts:

Nice to see President Bush show some testicular fortitude and not lay a wreath on terrorist Arafat's grave while in the Middle East. Nice start to the new year George.

My Bulls got crushed in the Sun Bowl by Oregon 56-21. Bummer of a way to end their season, but baby steps, you know? The hoopla was a bit much for everyone this first time around. Let's see what happens next year. Leavitt's done a nice job bringing the program along in steps. Can he take the next one? We'll see.

Happy to see FSU get beat, barely, by Kentucky. I don't know why everyone is so shocked by the student scandal there. FSU has always played by its own rules and attacked anyone who dared suggest that they weren't squeeky clean. In Tallahassee it's God, then Bobby Bowden, and don't question either one. Time for the old boy to step down.

Bucs play the Giants in the wild card game . . . and tickets are still available? How is this not sold out already? One Super Bowl and we're all immune to playoff fever? jeez  But I'm amused by the pundits who say that the Giants are all battle ready after their crushing defeat by the Pats last week. No, I think they're going to be gassed after giving it everything they had and still coming up short. Still picking the Bucs.

Dead last in the Southeast Conference. 'nuff said.

 So what did we learn?

Well, first off, the Panther's first stringers are only 8 points better than the Buc's second stringers.

That Luke McCown can run like a sprinter. So why does he take all those sacks? I don't know off the top of my head who the QB coach is in Tampa, but this guy needs to tell the kid to use his feet more.

That Michael Bennett needs to stop acting all frustrated when he doesn't break every run for 80 yards and start breaking a few tackles. If he gets up to speed, so to speak, in the playoffs, it will make a very dangerous one-two combination with Earnest Graham.

That if Michael Clayton played this hard all the time, folks wouldn't be wondering what happened to him. He'd be starting instead of warming the bench after being beaten out by old man Hilliard in the pre season.

That Fox cares so little about division winning Tampa that they gave us their "D Team" announcers. Thank god for Chip Carter.

That Vinny got less of an ovation for taking a snap in his last game than I thought he would. pity

 Perfection

Did you really doubt it would happen?

The Pats beat the Giants last night, 38-35, in what some will no doubt call a thrilling comeback. I said at the beginning of this season, that Belichick and the Pats were going to crush this league, and that is exactly what has happened. For the last couple of weeks, every team has brought it's A+ game. And lost. No one has been able to get ahead and stay ahead. Last year, the only reason the Colts came back and won that game was because the worst two receivers in football dropped passes that hit them in the hands at the end of the game.

BTW, are those guys still employed?

This year, Brady has the best weapons money can buy, and what has been the result -- perfection. 16-0! Look, I like Tony Dungy. I appreciate what he did here in Tampa. But he got canned because he couldn't take one of the best teams in football out of the first round of the playoffs four years in a row. He got lucky against the Pats. They were gassed after playing a brutal game against the Chargers the week before. Those two clowns don't drop those passes, and the Pats are in and win last year's Super Bowl.

Pats win it all this year. Write it down. There is no doubt.

Chucky's got the boys back in the playoffs. Expect plenty of subs today and possibly a win. The backups nearly pulled off a win last week against the 49ers. McCown has shown that he is more than capable of handling the big playbook. I look for Gruden to shake the cobwebs out in a game they don't have to win. I'm looking for the guys to go deep in the playoffs this year. The Cowboys, as mentioned here earlier this year, aren't as invincible as everyone thought. And, also as mentioned here, Favre has finally had the bad games that were due to come at some point.

I'll put it in writing here:
Bucs - Patriots in the Super Bowl.

 Merry Christmas!

Happy Holidays as well!

I hope your Christmas time is safe and fun filled with family and warmth and all things nice. Here's a glimpse of my Christmas tree with it's all cartoon ornaments. Always a favorite of the local kids, big and small. heh heh

There's a ton of ornaments, but the tree is so big they don't seem to cover it well. Guess I'll just have to buy more. Shucks.

Peace to you all.
